Top Mods for a Saxo
Posted on 10. Nov, 2005 by Amy in Cars, Products, The Store
Heres a list of my favourite modifications for a Saxo
Pipercross Viper induction kit
The reason i went for the viper is i had a viper kit on my old vtr and it was great made a nice roar etc. The viper has definitely given me a bit more power gain and also looks great the only little niggle i had was i needed to keep the original air feed section to have the cold air feed on. You can put it through one of the fog light holes but i preferred to keep them as fogs, that is another option.
Secondly, I went for a set of V-Maxx coilovers. These are fantastic for road use and offer comfortable ride whilst lowering a car, I didn’t wind it all the way down this time round but could have gone the full 75mm which would slam the car.
When it came to spark plugs I was faced with alot of options, mostly where iridium plugs which I already know a well performing but I wanted to go one step further. In the end I went for Nology Silver plugs which have definitely improved the spark on the car, the feel of revs are much smoother and didn’t break the bank!
Next, I went for a Venair coolant hose kit. My rubber coolant hoses looked a bit worse for wear after a solid 10 years of use and I wanted to go for a red hose kit. Venair had everything I needed and offered a full red coolant kit. These are a great performance mod as they don’t expect or collapse which normal rubber ones do and will last so much longer than the rubber ones.
When it came to exhausts, I wanted a top quality exhaust system. Remus had exactly what I needed and I went for a full stainless steel system from them. This exhaust sounds absolutely awesome at high revs and isn’t too aggressive at low revs for when I’m driving about and don’t want to be noticed.
The EBC Redstuff pads are fantastic for road use and have been great for my Saxo. The bite from cold is excellent which is useful as the car is also used as a daily driver to and from work so it’s always nice to know the brakes don’t need to be warmed up to reach their peak. I would recommend these to anybody who enjoys a mix of town driving and fast road use.
The EBC Turbogroove Discs matched with my Redstuff pads have given me a great braking system for road use. They have coped with town driving and fast road use absolutely perfectly and have not once faded on me coming up to corners with speed.
And here’s the finished result!

I just bought a saxo for my lil bro, he’s learning to drive at the moment and i really like your modifications to yours. i bought him VTS wheels and getting them powder coated anthracite colour, i think this will look good against the white paintwork. I fitted a pipercross foam induction kit i couldnt beleive the difference in noise with something as small. I would also like to lower it. But i have heard its a pain in the ASS to do the rear as its Torsion Bars. Would you recomend a garage to do it?

You need it lowered but it is a nice wee car. I am selling my corolla tsport and may trade in for a saxo vtr or vts nice car. The body kit is mint and I like the alloys but they should be black.

What litre is it? And how much are you selling it for? And what’s the mileage and plate.
Simon Morton

De-cat pipes will mean your car will not pass an MoT due to the emmissions being too high. Keep the original catalytic converter for this reason.

those mods would only recover the original bhp that would be lost through usage and add 5 i would say 125bhp! as the standard vts breathing system and exhaust are not that restrictive compared to the phase 2 90bhp vtr! to see 150bhp in a vts fast road cams and a stand alone ecu would work, costing around total of £1000 extra and you have a fast saxo but this is a good start on the moding ladder! geting rid of the kit or even using the sam colour grill mesh wuld help though!

don’t believe for one minute it has 150bhp from a filter, an exhaust a de cat an manifold
for a start they the vtr comes with 90 bhp so most u’d get from that lot is 25 bhp tops even with a remap it would struggle to pass 140
i had a supercharged ltd edition silve an grey saxo an it only mangaed 190bhp an it had over 4 grand of work carried out by carworx so there’s no way that saxo is running 150
Darren
04. Jun, 2010
@ FOZ… its a VTS 1.6 16v, putting out 120 bhp! And if it is port and polished it can make 150 with the rest of the kit easy!
plus NOT all VTR’s are 90bhp!!! The newer 2000/2001 vtr’s are 98bhp.
No I don’t own a Saxo, I used to!

150bhp in a GTI/VTS you need, Cams, Port n polish, 4 branch, de cat full system, enclosed induction and a good rolling road map on a standard ecu thats 150hp at the wheels and thats all you need.
