Busted - Speeding special

Seeing as that jammy mother hubbard Jeremy Clarkson can blag about doing 180 odd miles an hour around London. For this month I’m going to commiserate with any of you that have been caught speeding, as I was, doing 35 in a 30 area.

Rather than getting another 3 points I was offered a place at “Speed School” which gave me the option of not getting the points. Happy Days! So for those that haven’t been to “Speed School”, I’m gonna give you the lowdown.

Off to the cricket ground in Northampton I went, fearing a back to school style telling off. Particularly seeing as I was turning up in a car which looked like it wouldn’t have any trouble knocking off 130mph, let alone 30.

What actually happened was kind of good fun, interesting and gave me a loads of genuinely useful tips for not getting caught again!

I didn’t get treated like a criminal, of the 20 people that where there 10 of them got caught in exactly the same place as me. That camera must be a good earner!

So if you get this option take it!! Well worth saving your points.

Top 3 notable speeders

  • Back in January, Timothy Jonathan Brady got his 15 minutes of fame when he became the fastest speeder ever caught in Britain. It happened while Brady was rocketing his Porsche 911 down a quiet country road in Oxfordshire at a radar-confirmed 172 mph.
  • The fastest speeding ticket in the world allegedly occurred in May 2003 in Texas. It was supposedly 242mph in a 75mph zone. The car was a Swedish-built Koenigsegg, which was involved in the San Francisco to Miami Gumball 3000 Rally.
  • The most expensive speeding ticket ever given is believed to be the one given to Jussi Salonoja in Helsinki, Finland, in 2003. Salonoja, the 27-year-old heir to a company in the meat-industry, was fined 170 000 euros (£134,000) for driving 80km/h in a 40km/h zone. The uncommonly large fine was due to Finnish speeding tickets being relative to the offenders last known income.
